Hi, lovelies! Today’ll be sharing my favorite recipe for a Do-It-Yourself lip scrub. It’s super easy and effective. Lip scrubs are great for exfoliating dry, flaky lips. A lip exfoliation can make your lipsticks look amazing, specially the unforgiving ultra mattes. I also wanted to share these awesome glass jars I found at T.J. Maxx which are great for storing any kind of DIY scrubs and hair/skin masks (They’re actually spice jars). I like that they have a chalkboard rectangle for easy labeling. The set even came with chalk.
– Sugar (brown or white)
– Shea Butter
– Almond Extract (optional)
Most DIY lip scrub recipes consist of just honey and sugar. While this works great at exfoliating, it doesn’t do too much for moisturizing. Adding Shea butter not only helps treat the lips, it also makes the mixture thicker. I used a bit of my L’Occitane 100% Pure Shea Butter tin. The ratio of the ingredients is up to you. It depends on how gritty and thick you want the texture to be. Brown sugar will give you more exfoliation, while white sugar will yield a smoother (and less gritty) scrub. I add almond extract purely for the scent (which I love!) but you can omit this or add your favorite extract/oil.
I must stress this, go easy on the liquid ingredients. Your scrub should be mostly composed of sugar. If not your scrub will be too runny and it will drip off your lips. Don’t worry if the mixture looks too dry at first. That’s actually better because over time it will start to become more liquid.
Do you usually make your own lip scrubs or do you buy them?
