Essie Nail Polish Swatches
Hello, lovelies! These are my spring color picks from the Essie Nail Polish range. In general, I find Essie nail polishes to be okay, most are really sheer and need too many coats. There are some real gems in their line like Sand Tropez and Mesmerized (not shown in this post) but I think more affordable brands have better consistency throughout the line (like China Glaze). Essie does have really pretty colors and fancy packaging. I think that’s what makes them alluring. You can often find them on sale (50-80% off) on places like Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, FragranceDirect.co.uk, etc.
Turquoise and Caicos: I love this color, it’s very pretty. I would call it a cross between jade and mint green. However, I won’t be repurchasing this because it’s too sheer. My nail whites still show through even after two coats.
Nice is Nice: Such a pretty lilac! This used to be my go-to color once. My bottle is almost empty and this is a shade I would actually repurchase. The formula isn’t anything amazing, but it’s easy enough to work with. I’ve had this for over 2 years and it’s gone goopy on me. I love the color too much so I will pick up another one.
Sand Tropez: This is the only shade that I think is truly worth the $8-9 price tag. It applies easily, is opaque in one coat (but I still always do two for good measure) and it lasts almost a week without chipping. The color is a nude beige that is appropriate for any occasion.
Tart Deco: This is a fun summer color. It’s much brighter on the nails than what it looks on the bottle. It applies easily too. I like it but I don’t love it. I wouldn’t repurchase this one, even if it was on sale.
Fiji: This color is really popular. It’s supposedly a dupe for Butter London’s Teddy Girl. I can see why it’s so popular, the color is truly beautiful. However, I think the formula is a bit finicky and doesn’t justify the price.
Marshmallow: This color is a bit frustrating. The name is adorable and the color is the perfect milky white. But it’s so sheer. It needs 4 coats to look opaque which means it takes forever to dry and can turn gloopy.

18th Mar 2013 - 5:02 pmAhh, there's nothing more annoying than buying a gorgeous shade of nail polish and then finding out it's completely sheer! I haven't got the patience for that as I'm bad enough waiting for one layer to dry without smudging it!
I loved the look of Tart Deco in the bottle, shame it's brighter on the nails. Don't get me wrong, I do love a bright peachy coral, but a more pastel-y version would have been something a bit different and really pretty for Spring.

18th Mar 2013 - 5:12 pmI'm with you Coco, I think essie makes some of the greatest polish colors but the formula is so absolutely lacking for the price tag!! I'm definitely eyeballing Sand Tropez right now…

18th Mar 2013 - 5:50 pmI love the look of Sand Tropez. I only buy Essie polishes when they're on sale, as like you.. I struggle with some of the formulations being a bit hit & miss. I really love Bikini So Teeny.. it's always on offer! Such a beautiful shade xx

18th Mar 2013 - 6:56 pmI have Sand Tropez and love it for anytime of the year. I agree though, it is one of the few that I feel is worth the price tag.
I have wanted to try Fiji, but I could not understand the hype.

19th Mar 2013 - 7:03 amYeah, the color is nice but the formula is no better than cheaper polishes. I actually like China Glaze's formula better most of the times xx

18th Mar 2013 - 10:10 pmI've always wanted to try Turquoise and Caicos! It looks like a gorgeous color! But I agree, Essie is not the best polish brand. I personally even like the Wet n Wild megalast polishes a lot better!

18th Mar 2013 - 11:36 pmI have Fiji, Tart Deco and Turquoise & Caicos and as much as I love the colours I agree the formulas on a lot of Essie's nail polishes (I find mainly the lighter pastel colours) are so frustrating to work with. 🙂
Coco
19th Mar 2013 - 7:04 amThe brights and nudes are much better, agreed xx

19th Mar 2013 - 1:36 amThese all look lovely on you, Coco! I have a few Essie nail polishes in my collection and I quite enjoy them, although, I do agree that they are pretty inconsistent when it comes to texture and ease of application. My favorite Essie nail color is south of the highway. It's the prettiest milky, baby pink nail color! I wear it loads when I want a more subdued, natural look on my nails.

19th Mar 2013 - 7:04 amI'll have to check that one out then 🙂

14th Apr 2013 - 12:04 amThere's an inverse relationship in Essie with the uniqueness/popularity of the colour and the horrible wateriness of the formula.
Mint Candy Apple and Ballet Slippers spring immediately to mind.
