Avarice swatched (left) and blended (right)
Hi, lovelies! Today I’m reviewing another purchase from the November Sephora VIB Sale. I’ve always wanted to try a luxury lipstick, just to see what they were like. I had my eyes set on YSL, but the colors I wanted were already sold out. I then decided on a Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait because they always get rave reviews and are liquid formulas, which I had never owned. They are more expensive than YSL, but I thought that getting it at 20% off was the perfect chance to try it.
It’s a very pigmented liquid. The only other time I had tried a liquid lipstick was when I tried one of those long-wearing ones that dry and come with a gloss/balm. This doesn’t come with a balm because it doesn’t need it. It sets and dries in about 1 minute and you will feel the difference, but it’s not drying at all and it doesn’t crack or flake. It fades away in a natural way.
The packaging is very luxurious. It’s really heavy (for a lipstick) and comes with a mirror. Although I find it handy, I prefer it was packaged in a simpler way in order to cut costs and bulk. It weighs down my bag.
It’s a very flattering “my lips but better” shade for me. I love the color so much! It’s a color I can wear again and again and not grow tired of it. For me it’s like MAC’s Velvet Teddy: my go-to natural lip color, except Avarice is more of a cool toned dirty rose.
The formula is amazing quality, A+ for sure. You get what you pay for. It has all the elements of a luxury lipstick: great formula and beautiful packaging. Would I purchase another one? No, unless it was on sale because it’s a really expensive lipstick. It’s not within my budget’s comfort zone.
Have you tried any luxury lipsticks? What are your favorites?
