Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Muse
Hello, lovelies! Happy Saturday. Today’s review will be a quick one because this is a product I’m not all that pleased with. The Hourglass Opaque Rouge Lipsticks are incredibly hyped, specially the colors Icon and Riviera. I saw swatches of Muse over a year ago and have had it on my wish list since. It took a while for me to “bite the bullet” and purchase because the Opaque Rouges have a mixed bag of reviews. Plus, at $28 for 0.10 oz, it’s one of the more expensive liquid lipsticks on the market.
Muse is fittingly described as a coral red (although I’d consider it a reddish coral, with more orange than red). In a nutshell, it’s one of the most beautiful lip colors ever. However, the Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick formula is one of the finickiest I’ve encountered. Other liquid lipsticks I own (like the Stila All Day Liquid Lipstick, Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait, and NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream) apply and layer flawlessly. The Opaque Rouge has a tendency to crack, gather, and go patchy. You can get a nice application out of it, but it requires more effort than the no-nonsense brands mentioned previously. With the Opaque Rouge I have to be more careful about using really really thin layers and have to wait more for them to set. It comes down to, why pay more when you can get better for less? I feel like my purchase is justified because Muse is such a gorgeous color that I have wanted for ages, but it will be my last Hourglass Opaque Rouge purchase.
Seriously, if you’re in the market for liquid lipsticks look to the Stila All Days and the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. And, yes, the Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait cost $50 each, but you get twice the product (0.20 oz). What have been your experiences with liquid lipsticks? Have you tried the Opaque Rouges from Hourglass?
