MAC Face and Body Foundation
Hi, loves! Today I have a review of the MAC Face and Body Foundation. I know this is a very popular foundation and there are many reviews on it, but I wanted to give my 2 cents. There are pictures and swatches below so I hope this is helpful. For reference, I wear Face & Body in the color C5. This is a long review as there are a few things I want to mention about this foundation. There’s a summary at the end of the post that includes the most important information.
Since it’s water-based, it looks very natural on the skin and photographs beautifully, never cakey. Also, it has no SPF which means no white cast on pictures. Great for flash photography. It has a dewy finish.
The coverage is sheer/light. You can build it up but you will not get medium coverage out of this. It’s suited for people who only want to cover minor redness or discoloration.
For me the negative of Face & Body is the staying power. Now, I won’t fault it on the finish because that is subjective. Everyone likes different finishes for their foundation and some are more suitable for certain skin types. However, for my normal skin, I find that Face & Body’s dewy is too dewy. Even when I set this with powder it transfers a lot. Also, I once got a “you look shiny” comment while wearing this. I do like dewy finishes, I wish I could wear them, but I live in tropical humid weather so dewy becomes greasy very quickly. I bought this while I was on vacation and the weather was much drier there which is why I only noticed it when I got home. Also, dewy finishes usually mean average staying power because they don’t “set”.
The shade range is fantastic! For those with pale skin, there is a White shade that you can wear alone or mix if you find that other foundations aren’t light enough for you. The sheerness makes color matching very easy and forgiving. You can get away with a shade lighter or darker easily. The shade I have (C5) is actually my summer shade, I got it when I was really tanned. Yet I can still use it because it’s sheer. It does make me darker, but it does so in a very natural way. My “winter/fall” shade would be around C3 or C4. Also, it oxidizes a little meaning it gets a bit darker after the initial application.
I have used a stippling brush, a buffing brush and my fingers to apply this foundation and the results are always fantastic. This foundation always looks beautiful and natural!
You get your money’s worth because it has four times the usual foundation amount of 1 ounce (30 ml) and costs $33 USD. The bottle will last you forever. Face & Body has 4 ounces (120 ml).

- Good foundation, definitely in my top 5 but not my favorite.
- Beautiful dewy, natural finish. Sheer coverage (runny, water-based formula).
- The staying power is good/average but that is common with dewy foundations because they don’t “set”.
- It transfer a lot, even after being set with powder! (Again, common of dewy finish foundations)
- I recommend it most for dry & normal skin types. Oily or combination may find that the dewy finish causes too much slip or an oily look.
- Buildable to a light coverage so if you prefer more than that, F&B is not for you.
- Photographs great! (No SPF)
