I think we all have a platonic favorite makeup look that we’d love to wear all the time if we could. I’m an advocate for wearing whatever you want whenever you want, but a full-face of makeup and black smokey eye application every time I leave the house is just not practical for me. For this look I took some elements from grungy smokey makeup and cleaned it up a bit to make it more “glam” and “wearable”.
Note: I apologize for the fact that this post won’t include product pictures as per usual. I photographed this look prior to Hurricane María. I genuinely have no idea where half of the products I used for this are. I’ve listed the products I remember using below (I’m glad I have a detailed memory, it comes in handy sometimes).
How to make it glam:
+ Grunge/punk makeup usually consists of black eyeliner/eyeshadow smudged all around the eyes. By keeping the products on the upper lid and avoiding the bottom lashline, you can get a similar effect that looks tidier and more wearable.
+ Grunge makeup tends to be very matte and flat. Don’t be shy with your highlighter. Apply a shimmery shade on your cheekbones and cupid’s bow to give it a fresh spin.
How to keep it grunge:
+ The brows were either over plucked (if we’re taking inspiration from the 90’s) or natural, bushy, and untouched (80’s and early 90’s). I went with the latter for obvious reasons. Use your favorite brow product to define the eyebrows. Brush the hairs up and leave the upper part bare to avoid the “insta brow” look.
+ Use a lip stain, smudge your lipstick with your fingers or mix it with vaseline to achieve the “I don’t care about anything” look. *eyeroll*
Possibly used the NARS All Day Luminous Foundation in Punjab
Contour & Face Powder (don’t recall)
Don’t recall the mascara
ColourPop Supershock Eyeshadow in Fringe (cupid’s bow)
I hope you enjoyed this! Have fun and experiment with your makeup. (P.S. Posting old stuff makes me miss my pink hair 😭).
* Products marked with an asterisk are PR samples sent by the company.
