Makeup of the Day: Flawless Base
Hi, lovelies! Today’s Makeup of the Day (which is actually last week’s makeup!) consists of my attempt at a flawless base. I was going to be running a few important errands that day so I wanted my skin to look its best. As soon as May began I started feeling the terribly humid island heat. I had been opting for really lightweight light-coverage foundations like the BECCA Luminous Skin Colour and Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum. That day I chose my go-to foundation for special occasions (and sometimes for everyday too, depends on what I’m looking for). That is NARS Sheer Glow which, surprisingly, has never been reviewed on my blog but has been mentioned numerous times. I find Sheer Glow to be really long wearing and to have a solid medium coverage.
BASE: I’d normally skip face primer because my foundations last well on me without it and I try to keep my routine as “simple” as possible. However for long or special days I use the Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation Primer. It’s amazing at smoothing out my skin’s texture. Next I used NARS Sheer Glow in Punjab. Since Sheer Glow has a nice coverage, I went for a light concealer (MAC Mineralize Concealer in NC30). Since I was happy with the coverage and didn’t want to add anymore, I opted for a translucent setting powder to improve staying power and remove shine. I used the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder.
CHEEKS: I slightly contoured my face (cheeks and temples) with Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer. For blush I went with a slightly cool toned baby pink (theBalm Down Boy). Since everything on my face was matte, I added a little bit of shimmer by highlighting the top of my cheekbones with MAC Miss Behave Mineralize Blush (not shown).
EYES: The eyes were kept simple and neutral (in terms of eyeshadows). I used a mixture of Sin and Sidecar on my lid and Naked eyeshadow on my crease. All from my very well-loved Urban Decay Naked Palette. Using the Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Liner in Black Ink I created a thick line on my top lashline. I lined my waterline with the MAC NC15/NW20 Chromagraphic Pencil, added a coat of Bettina Bolder Lashes Mascara, and then placed a few Ardell Individual False Lashes on top.
LIPS: For lipstick I chose a long-wearing liquid lipstick (Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain L’Extrait in Avarice). I threw a lip gloss in my bag for easy, mirror-free touch-ups (which is ironic because the Guerlain lipstick comes with a mirror so I could have just reapplied that, haha). In case you’re curious the lip gloss I took with me was BECCA Fallen Angel Ultimate Colour Gloss.
And that’s basically my neutral makeup for special occasions. It’s a bit of a lengthy routine (specially compared to my everyday one) but I enjoy it. I did hide the mess in my living room by editing the picture (LOL, sorry for that!) I’m currently in the process of moving so there’s a mess everywhere. It’s also the reason while my blog posts have become a bit more irregular. I tend to post (or schedule posts) in the morning but the move has thrown everything off a bit. Hope you enjoyed this post. Have a nice week! 🙂
