Maybelline Electro Baby Lips in Berry Bomb and Minty Sheer
Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Collection in Berry Bomb and Minty Sheer – $4
When I saw the Electro Collection of the Maybelline Baby Lips online I knew that I wanted at least one. Just look at the packaging! I love it! When I saw them at the drugstore I had an impulse to buy all of the shades (especially with the BOGO 50% off offer). However, I restrained myself because I have too many lip balms already. Also, I really like the Baby Lips but I don’t love them. Keep reading for an in depth review and swatches…
The formula for these new Electro Baby Lips feels exactly the same as the original one. Maybelline Baby Lips are sheer lip balms with a hint of color. They make your lips very soft and shiny (but not as shiny as a lip gloss). The formula feels very emollient and isn’t thick. The reason I don’t absolutely love the Baby Lips is that I’ve found that I rarely ever reach for them. Although they’re the perfect lip product to throw in your bag for a low maintenance application throughout the day (great for school).
I think my issue lies in the fact that I obviously don’t reach for them when I want a lip color because they’re so sheer (except Pink Punch which has quite nice pigmentation for a balm). And when I want a lip balm I always pick something else over them (like Burt’s Bees, Fresh or L’Occitane balms). The reason being that the Baby Lips don’t sink into my lips, they sit on top until they wear off. My lips don’t feel very treated afterwards, they feel practically the same as they did before application. This may be different for you as lips react differently to formulas. The point is that they fall into that Twilight Zone of always getting overlooked when I open my makeup drawer.
Anyways, I actually ended up loving both colors. Minty Sheer has the slightest green undertone when swatched on my arm but on the lips it’s transparent. It also has a slight minty feel (less noticeable than the mintyness of the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains for example). Berry Bomb looks so pretty on the lips, it adds a subtle purple tone. I’m glad because the purple one from the permanent collection (Grape Vine) gave practically no color payoff.
Have you tried any of the Baby Lips? How do you like them?
