NYX Matte Lipstick in Butter, $6: I bought this after a friend’s recommendation. She mentioned that this seemed to resemble one of those taupe-y brown colors that have become very popular. I’ve seen Butter featured in some “get the Kylie Jenner lipstick look” posts on Pinterest. I don’t know how effective it is at simulating a 90’s lip, but it has become one of my favorite nude lipsticks. I know it can be a bit of a pain to search for swatches for this particular shade because it’s called Butter and NYX also has an entire range of lipsticks called Butter Lipsticks and Google tends to mix those up. So, I hope this helps!
Although this lipstick is labeled as matte, it has a thin and creamy emollient texture. NYX lipsticks tend to be on the oiler side, particularly their Round Lipstick range, so if you want to achieve a true matte finish with this you will need to either use a lip primer, translucent setting powder or blot your lips (like I did above). The formula isn’t particularly long-lasting because of its slipperiness. Despite its shortcomings, I reach for Butter often because it pairs well with many looks. A redeeming quality of its thin formula is that it’s very flattering on dry or chapped lips. Butter is not your standard boring nude– it’s a buildable taupe. The more layers you wear, the “grayer” or cooler toned it appears. It looks great with cool-toned lip liners such as MAC Stone (see above) but you can also warm it up with something like the Jordana Easyliner in Cabernet or the ColourPop Cosmetics Lippie Pencil in Pitch. It’s a really cool color and affordable too. Recommended!
