One thing, though. I wouldn’t call this galaxy/universe-like. It reminds me a lot more of mermaids. Still, love the color and love the name (go, Beatles!) That is all. Until next time!

Besides holding the record for the blog post with the longest title, this post also has the honor of featuring my all-time favorite nail polish. Yep, that’s a big claim. Sometime around late 2012 I named Illamasqua’s Creator Nail Polish as my favorite but it was recently dethroned by this, Deborah Lippmann’s Across The Universe ($18). (I still love you, Creator!)
What makes Across The Universe so great? Just look at it, it’s beautiful! It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I just can’t stop looking at my nails whenever I wear this. Yes, it’s a damn pricey polish, but totally worth it. What has always set Deborah Lippmann polishes apart is the uniqueness of their glitters. Many were happy to pay the hefty price tag in order to have a nail polish unlike any offered by other brands. Fast forward a few years and Lippmann’s influence on the nail polish market is undeniable. You can now find dupes for several of her shades from powerhouse drugstore brands like Revlon and L’Oreal. NYX has even
completely ripped off copied Lippmann’s signature bottle design. I say that bluntly because, have you seen them? They’re identical!
So, could I have gotten a dupe? Probably, but let me tell you. If it was hard enough for me to get my hands on such a coveted color like Across The Universe, imagine how impossible it would have been to obtain a dupe. Why? Because I live in a tiny island. And no retailer wants to ship nail polish by air. (I know, I know. It’s considered a hazardous material and it’s technically illegal, but a girl just wants to get a damn nail polish!) And no one here used to stock Deborah Lippmann until a few months ago when my local Sephora finally started carrying them.
I won’t keep boring you with my sob story on how long I wanted this and couldn’t get it. Let’s talk about the product itself. The dark blue base is about 70% opaque so you can get away with wearing this glitter alone (no base color). It applies very smoothly. The glitters are not clumpy, hard to position, and don’t do that annoying thing where they stand up vertically. As you know, glitters do not want to come off your nails so naturally Across The Universe lasts and lasts and lasts… I wore this for over 10 days straight and only saw minor tip wear. (I want to point out that I always use a base coat with nail polish.)
