Review: Illamasqua Brink Lipstick
I don’t know if any of you remember, but I previously reviewed an Illamasqua Lipstick in Obey. I really disliked it. It was so dry that it was almost powdery. I had gotten Brink as well but was going to return it after having such a bad experience with Obey. I never got around to it and now it’s too late to return it. And I feel like I’m stuck with a bad lipstick again because I’m disappointed with Brink. For reference, I don’t have dry lips. I take care of them with lip scrubs, lip balms, and Shea butter.
Brink is extremely pigmented and completely opaque. The color is a vibrant coral/orange. It’s quite bold, but I think it’s gorgeous. In person it doesn’t look as peachy on the lips as it does in the picture. It’s more orange/coral but it’s hard to photograph.
Not as dry as Obey, but still really dry. Almost powdery. Powdery matte lipsticks accentuate imperfections too much. Plus, you have to apply more pressure and they’re more likely to break. As you can see on the second picture, Brink did break after just two uses. This is my first broken lipstick bullet.
I really wanted to like this because the color is stunning. It’s not the worst lipstick I’ve tried and it’s not as bad as Obey, but I know that I won’t be wearing it again. There are many great matte, vibrant formulas out there. This just looks too “textured” up close. I know some people like Illamasqua lipsticks and some people don’t. Sadly, I haven’t had good experiences with them 🙁
