Review: MAC Petal Power Mineralize Blush
Spoiler alert: I very much nearly hate this product. I say nearly, because it’s actually a nice quality item but I highly dislike how it looks on. I’m talking about the MAC Mineralize Blush in Petal Power ($25). This product is Limited Edition and part of MAC’s recent Fantasy of Flowers collection. I had my heart set on loving this blush but I guess it was not meant to be (so dramatic).
I always review products objectively, based on quality. If I don’t like a color or how it looks in person, I’ll mention it but I’ll never say “this sucks” unless the quality is poor. That’s exactly the case for Petal Pusher. The pigmentation is good and so is the wear time. It’s fairly soft in texture, but not as soft as permanent shades from the Mineralize Blush range.
So why do I hate this? Well… just look at it. It’s a frost-fest. Disco-ball-outdated-pore-enlarging frosty. I had a close-up picture of my cheeks, but decided against posting it because my pores looked horrendous thanks to this. So, why in the world would I buy a frosty blush if I don’t like these types of finishes? Here’s what happened: a) I knew it had shimmer but I thought it would be subtle shimmer like in my beloved Warm Soul Mineralize Blush b) I bought this online and never saw it in person c) I usually have great experiences whenever I purchase products without seeing them in person first (which is often) because I research them thoroughly before hand. However, every review I read failed to mention how frosty this is. In my opinion, it’s something that deserves a mention because it’s not shimmery or glittery–it’s frosty. And when it comes to lipsticks and blushes, a majority of consumers don’t like these finishes. d) I only saw arm swatches because most blogs don’t post face swatches. In these swatches, the shimmer did not look as intense (understandably so, because the skin in your arm and face is very different).
Just look at how frosty it is compared to NARS Orgasm which is one of the most notoriously frosty blushes in the market. Bottom line, it’s not my style and I’ll be returning this in the next couple of days. 🙁

20th Mar 2014 - 3:12 pmOh no!! I have to say: I think it looks lovely on you in that last picture haha. But I'll take your word for it that up close it's a frosty fail. Such a shame! It could have been gorgeous if not for the finish 🙁

20th Mar 2014 - 3:45 pmThe swatch looks pretty I've never tried a frost blush before but I too would not want to wear this if it enlarged my pore. Great review on this!

20th Mar 2014 - 3:52 pmAh, this is a frost-fest! The shade itself looks lovely, but anything more shimmery than Orgasm probably wouldn't be the most flattering. Thanks for the review! xo

20th Mar 2014 - 4:41 pmThis is a really lovely shade, I just bought the Sleek blush in Rose Gold and I don't think it would be amiss among all of these swatches so for now I will keep this on my wishlist until I can justify yet another rose-gold shimmer blush!

20th Mar 2014 - 5:00 pmIt looks pretty on you though! But I can understand you don't like the frostiness. I am also not really a fan of shimmery/frosty blush esp on my combination skin, it could look too much T.T

20th Mar 2014 - 7:30 pmI think this is the perfect spring summer blush, you've got a warm pink, with the tiniest golden sheen, which I adore…. I'm a warm tone/neutral gal and I think anything with a tiny gold sheen makes my cheek bones look sharper and more lifted. Can't complain about that!

21st Mar 2014 - 12:13 amThis looks lovely but it's just so shimmery! I find NARS Orgasm to be quite shimmery already so to see this swatched beside it being even more shimmery, I'm sure I wouldn't be very fond of this. xx

21st Mar 2014 - 4:09 amOh my, that has to be one of the most frostiest blushes I've seen. 😐 If it was lighter you could use it as a highlighter but it's just such a strong color. It would make for a really nice eyeshadow though, maybe you can try using it as a XXXL eyeshadow.

22nd Mar 2014 - 1:05 amI think it looks amazing on you. It might look frosty when swatched heavily but applied on your skin does not look frosty at all. It looks very natural and illuminates very nicely, gives you healthy skin glow. Also I am very surprised that you find Orgasm frosty. I think it is just satin with some sheen to it, but barely any.
TheBeautyMilk
24th Mar 2014 - 10:57 pmThank you! I do find Orgasm quite shimmer/frosty. Satins to me are more like Daniel Sandler's Passion, MAC Warm Soul, BECCA's Damselfly, things like that. But everyone has their own preference and shimmer tolerance 🙂

10th Apr 2014 - 7:33 amThank you for your honest review, I tend to dislike the mineralize formula as it emphasises my pores, but I'm a sucker for a coral shade so I ordered it, following your review I cancelled my order, I already own Nars Orgasm, so I was just being a greedy. 🙂
Thanks for your help xx
