Review: NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Istanbul
Hi, lovelies! Here’s a product rave for you. Do you enjoy liquid lipsticks or matte lip products? Then you might want to try the Soft Matte Lip Creams ($6) from NYX. These come in 13 gorgeous colors named after cities around the world. The one I have is Istanbul, a light-medium yellow/warm based pink. If you have a medium warm undertone (around NC30) and find that most light pinks are often too cool-toned on you, you’ll love Istanbul. I would call Istanbul MAC’s Angel warm-toned sister (of course, Angel has a sheen and Istanbul is matte but color-wise they’re both baby pinks).
Like most liquid lipsticks, the Soft Matte Lip Creams come with a doe foot applicator. Liquid lipsticks feel creamy on the lips upon application but after a minute or two they set to a dry matte finish. Don’t be afraid of them, if the formula is done right they won’t be drying. However keep in mind that any matte finish will not hide chapped lips or imperfections. If you’re prone to dry and flaky lips I recommend using a lip scrub or balm prior or even skipping matte finishes altogether.
I found that Istanbul took a bit longer to dry and set in comparison to other liquid lipsticks I’ve tried (like the Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait or the Hourglass Rouge Liquid Lipsticks) It was just about a minute longer so not a real problem. If you have trouble using liquid lipsticks try applying a thin layer and letting it set. After that apply a final thin layer.
+ Long wearing
+ Non drying matte finish
+ Easy to apply
+ Doesn’t flake
+ Transfer resistant
+ When it wears off it can look patchy
+ Not suitable for chapped, dry lips
I’m going to be buying more colors from the Soft Matte Lip Cream line in the future. I love liquid lipsticks and adore matte finishes. The more matte the better! Liquid lipsticks wear well but you must take them with you for reapplication or remove them from your lipsticks completely. They don’t fade like regular lipsticks but sort of rub off (if that makes sense) which can create patches after long hours. With a color like Istanbul it isn’t noticeable but keep that in mind if you wear a vibrant color.
Let me know if you own any of these!
