I honestly think Sleek has the best affordable palettes in the market. And as much as I like Wet’n’Wild ColorIcon Palettes, I think these are better. I wish stateside drugstores carried them so I could pick them up much more easily. The one I want to share with you today is the Vintage Romance Palette ($11.99) which was gifted to me by the lovely blogger Latasha.
The first think that stands out from this palette is its beautiful color selection. Just look at how metallic those shades are! Of course that means that this isn’t a good pick for matte-only folks. It’s also half neutral and half colorful. The colorful shades aren’t bright but more along the lines of dark smokey shades. That’s something to consider because you probably don’t want to get a palette and only use a fraction of the colors in it. It’s not a problem for me since I love non-neutral makeup as well. In fact, my favorite shades from this palette are Marry in Monte Carlo, Bliss in Barcelona, and Court in Cannes. Also, can we give Sleek an award for cutest eyeshadow names?
In terms of formula: the more glittery shades have fallout which can be avoided by patting the colors on or using the wet. The pigmentation is great and so is the texture. My two critiques don’t have to do with eyeshadow quality but packaging and color selection. This palette only comes with one matte shade which I consider a big flaw because shimmery looks need to be balanced out with something matte. Not only that, but it’s also a very red/warm toned brown which cooler skin tones might not like to use on the crease. A neutral brown would have been a more universal and safe choice. Secondly, why are all Sleek product so hard to open? It seems like I always chip my nails when I use them.
Overall, I totally recommend this palette. It’s beautiful, affordable, and good quality. I applaud Sleek for always making eyeshadow palettes with color schemes that are different from the other ones in the market.
Have you tried the Vintage Romance Palette? Which is your favorite Sleek palette? P.S. Weren’t Sleek eyeshadow palettes $9.99? When did this $2 increase happen? Damn… Still pretty cheap considering you get 12 eyeshadows, but still…
