I’m certain you’ve seen this palette on my blog before since I posted a makeup look I created with it (Catching Fire Makeup). The Balm Voyage Palette ($42.50) was gifted to me by the lovely Laura. (Thank you, Lau!) She posts makeup looks and reviews on her Instagram so I highly suggest you follow her. Anyhow, this palette comes with 16 eyeshadows and 3 cheek/lip creams. The color selection is amazing because it’s a mixture of neutrals, colors, mattes, and shimmers.

As you can see from the swatches, all the eyeshadows in this palette are very pigmented. They are soft, buttery, easy to blend, and don’t crease. The downside with several eyeshadows from theBalm, I’ve found, is that they’re a bit powdery. This doesn’t pose a problem during application, they simply kick off excess dust when you put your brush in them. This sort of whispy texture, as I call it, can result in fading throughout the day, but as I always wear an eye primer this is not a problem for me. Although they’d be perfect if they weren’t as powdery, powderyness is at the bottom of my worries list. Dryness, chalkiness, lack of pigmentation, and creasing are the deal breakers for me.
Is this palette worth the investment? Yes! Most definitely. There are some shades here that are unique enough so that someone who owns a lot of eyeshadows already won’t feel like they’re getting more of the same. Case and point? A1, a shimmery mix of taupe/brown/lilac. D1, a pale satin yellow. B2, a matte aqua and C2, a medium matte teal. You can create so many looks using this palette because of its diversity. Great for anyone who’s just getting into eyeshadows because you get a little bit of everything.
I’d also like to point out that the lip/cheek creams are very good! I wish theBalm would bring them out as stand-alone products in their permanent line. theBalm products can be a little hard to get a hold of but if you can, wait for their annual sales or until the go on Hautelook. That way you can get a 40-50% off discount!
