Rimmel Apocalips Show Off Matte in Meteoric Matte
I remember looking forward to the release of the original Rimmel Apocalips in the U.S. (they were renamed Show Off for the american market). Sadly I was disappointed with the formula. I found that it feathered and smeared easily. Plus, it was too shiny for my liking. When Rimmel came out with a new range of matte Apocalips colors, I decided to see if I liked this version better.
I got the shade called Meteoric Matte, a raspberry red. The lip color feels very velvety and glides on smoothly across the lips. It’s very long-wearing as it leaves a stain behind once the initial layer of color has worn off. It’s not a true matte. Don’t expect it to dry to a transfer-free matte finish like Lime Crime Velvetines, Sephora Cream Lip Stains, Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, etc. The Apocalips Matte finish is closer to a velvet/cream. It’s more forgiving on dryness and lip texture, but it transfers a bit (nowhere near as much as the original Apocalips though). The Matte Apocalips are very much like the Too Faced Melted Liquified lipsticks or the Bite Beauty Cashmere Lip Creams.
I like this formula. It’s not as matte as I was expecting, but it’s matte enough for me. The color is beautiful and if I see another shade that catches my eye then I would definitely consider getting a second Apocalips Matte.
Have you tried the new matte version of the Apocalips? Did you like the original ones?
