You know that ironic moment when you’re going through your makeup collection trying to select a roundup of products and end up finding that all of them look pretty much the same? That’s what happened when I was putting together this list. It was pretty defeating, ha! Anyway, here are some options (both high-end and drugstore) if you’re looking for a striking blood orange lipstick (“Blood orange – she’s so pretentious. Shut up, it’s f-ing red!” Solid reference.)
1. First up is one of the new Revlon Matte Balms in the color Striking. This is the lightest shade of the bunch, although the nuances between all of these are practically non-existent. The wear time for this color is average and the finish is a semi-matte/creamy matte. It’s really pigmented and mint scented.
2. I have raved about the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams before because they are one of the best and most affordable liquid lipsticks in the market. Morocco is a true matte. Since the application of liquid lipsticks usually involves two layers, Morocco has buildable pigmentation.
3. An absolute classic that I hand’t gotten around to trying until about two months ago, MAC’s Lady Danger is the most universally flattering orange-red (in my option). It’s very bright and fairly long wearing. It is more matte than Striking but still not a true matte.
4. Bite Beauty High Pigment Lip Pencil in Zinfandel is the color I wore to IMATS and it lasted really well. I brought it with me to reapply but never ended up doing so. It’s very very creamy and glides on the lips during application. It has a very pretty satin finish. I’m usually put off by glossy lipsticks but this was enough shine for me. It’s really bright and will definitely get you many compliments.
5. Purty Persimmon
is the shade I’ve had the longest and it’s probably the most orange out of all of them. I’ve reviewed the Wet’n’Wild MegaLast Lipsticks
before (see review here
). The formula is really pigmented but the tube needs “breaking in”. The first time you use it it will feel somewhat dry and tug on the lips. After that you will get a creamy semi-matte finish.
P.S. I apologize that the order of the lipsticks is different in all the pictures. #fail
