Stumbling Upon Dupes: MAC, ColourPop, NYX
I think this is the longest hiatus I have unwillingly taken from my blog. I’ve been sans internet for a long time so I have a huge backlog of blog posts, messages, and online related tasks. These past few months have been an uphill battle in a lot of aspects. I’ve been trying to finish the blog’s redesign which I started a few months ago. Anyhow, I was assessing my makeup collection recently and I thought I had some products that looked very similar to each other. I picked the ones I thought were the closest dupes and decided to share them with you. These include dupes for ColourPop Lippie Stix in Pitch (a supposed dupe for Lime Crime Salem), MAC Eye Pencil in Teddy, and MAC Lipstick in Velvet Teddy.
Left to right: ColourPop Cosmetics Lip Pencil in Pitch, NYX Slim Lipliner Pencil in Cappuccino, MAC Kohl Eye Pencil in Teddy, Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen in BronzeBeam, MAC Matte Lipstick in Velvet Teddy, Wet’n’Wild MegaLast Lip Color in Bare It All
01. ColourPop Cosmetics Lip Pencil in Pitch ($5) vs. 02. NYX Slim Lipliner Pencil in Cappuccino ($3.50): I mentioned in the introductory paragraph that Pitch is an alleged dupe for Lime Crime’s Salem. I don’t own Salem but I bought Pitch for that reason (I am no longer purchasing any new Lime Crime products). I noticed that another lip liner in my collection, Cappuccino, resembled Pitch. I’ve worn both all over the lips as lipstick and they look very nice. Cappuccino, however, is lighter. It could be layered to look as dark as Pitch but I don’t recommend that since it applies patchily. Pitch is the clear winner here and it’s only a few dollars pricier.
03. MAC Kohl Eye Pencil in Teddy ($16) vs. 04. Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen in BronzeBeam* ($12): Teddy is a gorgeous eyeliner pencil that I reviewed in 2013. I recommended this color because, besides having a wonderful formula, it’s a unique brown with gorgeous gold shimmer. I was sent BronzeBeam by Pixi and was immediately reminded of Teddy. It turns out the gold shimmer in BronzeBeam is even more intense and noticeable. Ultimately it’s up to you wether or not you want stronger shimmer. The prince difference isn’t vast but considering Pixi is sold at Target (in the U.S.) you could get it for less than $12.
05. MAC Lipstick in Velvet Teddy ($17) vs. 06. Wet’n’Wild Lip Color in Bare It All ($2): Velvet Teddy is thicker in texture and slightly longer wearing, but these are great contenders. I wrote a whole blog post denouncing Bare It All as my favorite drugstore lipstick back in 2013. Now it makes sense to me why I took such a liking to it, Velvet Teddy is amongst my top 3 favorite nude lipsticks. The price difference between Velvet Teddy and Bare It All is considerable, so the decision should be pretty easy.
I hope you found some cheaper alternatives in this post. Let me know if you’ve found any great dupes lately!
