Top Pick: Favorite Drugstore Nude Lipstick
For the longest time L’Oreal’s Fairest Nude was my favorite drugstore lipstick ever (you can see it in action in this post). However, after recently acquiring Bare It All from Wet’n’Wild, there has been a tie for the number one spot. Come to think of it, most of my favorite nude lipsticks are from the drugstore. If I had to name my all-time favorite nudes they would be: L’Oreal Fairest Nude, Wet’n’Wild Bare It All, Catrice The Nuder The Better, and MAC Velvet Teddy.
I stumbled upon Bare It All by chance. It was a spontaneous makeup purchase (which is very rare these days since I’ve been on an unofficial spending ban). It might be new or limited edition since it was on a special Wet’n’Wild display at Walgreens. Or it could be permanent and simply be misplaced. I’ve reviewed Wet’n’Wild Mega Last lipsticks thoroughly before (here) so I’ll just summarize the most important points:
+ Mega Last lipsticks have a matte finish but it’s more of a cream matte rather than a retro matte.
+ The pigmentation is great. You get full opacity in one layer.
+ The lasting power is average to good depending on the color.
+ They are not dry or drying. I find Revlon mattes to be much drier than these.
+ Sometimes the bullets are a bit “stiff” and tug on the first use but then get softer. This didn’t happen with Bare It All but it has happened with some of my other colors, particularly the hot pinks.
+ I hate the packaging. The cap doesn’t close tightly so it comes off sometimes. The bullet doesn’t fully retract so it can smudge or break. I also wish the shape of the bullet was like the traditional pointed lipstick shape for more precision around the cupid’s bow (not an issue with light colors like Bare It All but the round shape isn’t as precise with darker colors.)
Despite the packaging, I really enjoy the Wet’n’Wild formula. And at around $2 per lipstick, it’s a steal! I love Bare It All. It’s a bit similar to MAC’s Velvet Teddy except it has more pink. It’s more of a deep, medium nude which is what I like. I feel like light nudes wash out my complexion (because of my medium skin tone).
What’s your favorite nude lipstick (drugstore or high end)?
