Try It Out Thursday: Scotch Tape Wings
Hello, beauties! Please excuse the terrible post title, it’s the shortest yet most descriptive one I could think of. I’ve been trying the “tape method” lately for making wings, sharp edges, and cut creases. I really like it! It’s easy and gives you really dramatic, sharp lines. The method consists of sticking a piece of tape along your bottom lashline. It’s really important to take most of the adhesive off the tape (by sticking it on the back of your had repeatedly) so it doesn’t hurt the skin around your eyes or ruin your makeup. The tape serves as a good guideline for eyeliner, ensuring perfect wings each time. This time I was aiming for a softer look (a diffused wing) so I used black eyeshadow and no eyeliner. If you’d like to see how I achieved this look you can watch the video embedded in this post. Since most Try It Out Thursdays consist of trying new techniques, I’m going to try and film videos for them because I would think they would complement the blog posts nicely. Nothing too fancy though, I’m not a video making person!

Also, I can’t believe my last TIOT post was back in February!! I wish I could do them weekly, but sometimes they take weeks to prepare (since some include several makeup looks and I can’t do them all in one day). Anyways, here’s a list of my past Try It Out Thursdays in case you want to check them out: Speckled Eyeliner, Cut Crease, Duochromes, Colorful Eyeliner, Nude Eyeliner, Colorful Eyeshadow, MAC Mixing Medium, Ombre Lips, and Red Eyeliner.
P.S. Huge thanks to Cassie for explaining to me (ages ago) how to get a custom thumbnail on YT videos!

11th Apr 2013 - 4:46 pmSo pretty! This trick is the best. Also congrats on the YT channel Coco, looking forward to more videos! Today I'm wearing winged eyeliner, not as dramatic as yours but still, and a pinkish-gold eyeshadow too, a bit lighter than Trax, though hehe : ) xx

12th Apr 2013 - 2:11 pmI hope to be able to film a lot of makeup tutorials. That's what I really want to do. Seems so fun, but it's a bit hard and overwhelming tbh

11th Apr 2013 - 4:48 pmGorgeous!
I like my 'wing' quite thick, so I do the trick of cutting a sharp wing into some small card paper and positioning that by my eye and filling it out. Fastest way for me too!
By the way, thanks for following me back, dear! x

11th Apr 2013 - 6:29 pmI was just thinking…ooooof, she needs to do an eyebrow tutorial and then boom you did your eyebrows. Sadly, I think I will still have issues as I am trying to reshape as opposed to just darken my eyebrows. My eyebrows already dark and full just a tad un-even with sparseness. I need to learn how to fill in without looking like groucho marx. Love the vid! Hope to see more. I am already seeing why my eyeshadow work suck.

13th Apr 2013 - 2:00 amAww, I've had the same eyebrow shape since I was in highschool so I don't really reshape. Sorry I couldn't be of more help π

13th Apr 2013 - 6:35 amCOCO YOU HAVE A YOUTUBE CHANNEL?! AGH!! I'm just fangirling over your tutorial! It's really amazing. Seriously! You've gotten on the ground running! My only suggestion though is that the white font against the light pink-purple background was a bit hard to read. Nevertheless, well done π I'm a fan of the scotch tape trick as well, but usually I just go, "eh.. YOLO" because I'm lazy, heh. Off to follow you now on Youtube! Well done again!
Coco
13th Apr 2013 - 8:31 amThank you, girl!!! OMG π <3333 definitely agree! I regret using white. Didn't notice until after I had uploaded because it was even harder to read online. Somehow the video lost quality because that's not how it looks on my laptop. Anyways, I was too lazy to change it back because you know videos take 40x as long to upload as they are actually long (did that even make sense, haha?)
Anyways, thanks for the feedback!! <3

14th Apr 2013 - 4:58 amSo glad you're on youtube! (I commented the same thing there hahah). I also really like what you did with the blended out softer wing. Sometimes I want a winged liner look but black liquid liner is just too harsh. I definitely am going to give this a shot!

22nd Apr 2013 - 5:39 pmThanks for this! I'm definitely going to try this, liquid eyeliner is always so hard to do! Love your blog, followed on bloglovin π
